Search Kent Bench Warrants

Kent bench warrants are court orders that judges sign when a person fails to appear in Kent Municipal Court or another court that hears a Kent case. You can run a Kent bench warrant search through the state courts data warehouse, the King County district court tools, and the Kent city court page. Most outstanding warrant lookups take only a name. A date of birth helps narrow the results. Kent is the fourth largest city in King County and runs its own municipal court.

Kent Municipal Court

The Kent Municipal Court handles city code cases. That covers traffic, parking, DUI, domestic violence, and small misdemeanors filed by Kent Police. The court site is at kentwa.gov/government/public-safety/municipal-court. The court phone is 253-856-5730. Court staff can confirm if a Kent bench warrant is active. They cannot give legal advice.

If you have a Kent bench warrant in your name, the safest move is to call a lawyer first. A lawyer can ask the court to quash the warrant and set a new court date. The judge may set bail or just reset the case. This is faster than waiting to be picked up at a traffic stop. Kent Municipal Court also serves contract cities like Maple Valley.

Felony cases that start in Kent move to King County Superior Court. A felony arrest warrant is more serious than a misdemeanor bench warrant. The court rules CrR 2.2 and CrRLJ 2.2 set the steps a judge must take before signing a warrant. You can read those rules through the Washington Courts site.

DOC and State Warrant Lists

Some warrants are not in court tools. The Washington Department of Corrections runs its own warrant list under RCW 9.94A.716 on apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw. If a person is on community custody and breaks the rules of release, the DOC can put a warrant out. The DOC warrant search is free and open to the public.

The DOC also runs a wanted and absconder list. This list shows the most current escapees and absconders with photos and case info.

Visit the DOC warrant page to see active community custody warrants.

How to Clear a Kent Bench Warrant

If you find an outstanding warrant in your name, do not wait. Call a lawyer first. The lawyer can ask the court to quash the warrant and set a new date. Forms for motions to quash are on the Washington Courts forms page. Some Kent cases need an in person hearing. Others can be handled by mail. The Kent court clerk can tell you which one your case needs.

You can find court contact info on the Washington Courts directory. The directory lists every court in the state with phone, address, and clerk hours.

WATCH and Criminal History for Kent

The Washington State Patrol runs a tool called WATCH. WATCH stands for Washington Access to Criminal History. It is a name based search of the state criminal record system at fortress.wa.gov/wsp/watch. There is a small fee for the full record. WATCH does not show every Kent bench warrant, but it does show prior charges that can help confirm a person's record.

Kent Jail and Booking Info

Kent runs a city jail that holds people picked up by Kent Police. The jail is at 1230 S Central Ave. After a booking, most cases move to Kent Municipal Court within a day or two. The court sets bail and the next hearing date. If a person fails to appear after release, the judge can sign a Kent bench warrant. The judge uses the rules in CrRLJ 2.2 to decide.

You can use the Washington JIS-Link service for deeper case data. Most one off Kent warrant lookups do not need JIS-Link. The free public tools at courts.wa.gov/jislink are enough for most checks. The Kent court can also give a printed case copy if you visit the clerk in person.

Public Access Rules

Most Kent court records are public. The state Public Records Act, RCW 42.56, sets the basic rule that state records are open. Court rule GR 31 says case files are open unless a judge seals them. You do not need to give a reason. You do not need to show ID. Juvenile warrants are not in the public system. Sealed cases do not show. Social security numbers and bank info are redacted.

Note: A bench warrant in Kent stays active until the person is arrested, the court quashes the warrant, or the case is closed by a judge.
